53,651 - First few thousands are just not valued.

Monday, May 15, 2006 10:44 AM

Josh posted an excellent blog piece here. Considering all the new startups and booming web 2.0 applications, are they really booming or are they just part of our (web 2.0 trackers) mind game?

To prove myself right or wrong I toke the time to ask a few people from different places about the most common web 2.0 apps and surprisingly 2 out of 23 people (tech/geeky people) that I asked said "yes I know that site" - Amazing isn't it? They both knew MySpace and Craigslist - 2 out of 23?

I have been keeping an eye on the web 2.0 boom and all it takes to get your first 15K users on your launch is a listing or review on techcrunch or other similar sites such as ehub. Therefore it proves that the first few tens of thousands of users are not actual consumers, they are just flowing with the line of web 2.0 tracking - as Josh mention, people that solely depend on blog networking, are really putting their eggs in a small basket.
